Oxley Reclaims Crown

Its been 12 long years between crowns for Brad Oxley. 1987 saw Oxley win his first Nationals at Costa Mesa and now he claims his second in 1999. Oxley out lasted Gary Hicks, Bart Bast, Mike Faria and Chris Manchester in the main event. The main event, as most expected did require a restart after the riders tangled in turn one causing a chain reaction crash.  Faria took one of the seasons hardest get-offs and had to restart on a borrowed bike. Faria was in the lead when the crash occured. On the restart Faria again got the gate but because he was on an unfamiliar bike, borrowed from Bobby Schwartz he was not able to hold the line and left just enough room for Oxley to sneak by before leading the final three laps.

Early racing saw Charlie Venegas win all three of his heat races but had problems in his semi and finished last failing to make the main or the last chance.
