It was a full moon at Costa Mesa Saturday night and that could explain lot. It's hard to decide what provided the most excitement, was it the brawl with Bobby Schwartz and Brad Oxley or the depute of John Aden's new Jawa powered speedway midget. Either way I think they both overshadowed the night of great racing. Charlie "the Edge" Venegas won the handicap main event in front of the still buzzing fans. The reason I say still buzzing is because of John Aden's Speedway midget.  Aden who builds these cars from scratch in his garage/machine shop brought a car to town just to run as a demo with all the other sprint cars. Aden has never raced this car accept on his home built speedway track in his back yard. The crowd cheered him on in his heat race as he captured 3rd place after spinning early in the race. The sound of a Jawa powered car running with all the 2 stroke motors was pure pleasure. When the main event came around,Aden who started in the rear of the 8 car field had decided to give winning a go. The crowd was on it's feet as Aden pulled his car on the track after all other had taken a warm up lap. At the green flag Aden was off. He passed a few cars early and worked his way to the front. By the 6th lap he was in second and gaining on the leader. He made the pass on lap 7 and held on for 2 more laps to take the checkers. The fans were behind him 100%. I think everyone was on their feet yelling. You would have thought he had just won the nationals. Aden stopped his car on the track and climbed out to the roar of 5000 screaming people. I do believe this was exactly what speedway needed. This kind of fan support is a great shot in the arm for all of speedway. Aden is hoping to sell a few more of these cars and start a speedway midget series. I would hope the Oxleys would welcome such a thing.

I'm not going to comment much about the Oxley / Schwartz thing accept to say " Bobby, I hope you reconsider, If you don't, Then thanks for all the years."

Oh by the way, Bobby Schwartz won the scratch main event.
