Oxley Starts The Summer In Style

The start of the summer season proved to be good to Brad Oxley.
Oxley from San Jaun Capistrano, won the Handicap main event in 
a race the was really never much of a contest. Oxley took the lead 
on about the third lap and then just ran away with the race.
Tonights track started out in question. It was deep and the riders
in the first four races could not even get the bikes sliding.
It was like watching a flattrack race. But as time went on the track
came back and by the time the scratch racing started it was in great shape.
Bobby Schwartz took a wire to wire win in the scratch main event.
Schwartz showed that after 24 years of racing and 40 somthing birthdays,
he is still one to watch.  
Current National Champion Steve Lucero announced to night that he 
will no longer be making the long drive from Northern californoia
to Costa Mesa every week. Exept for the fair derby, Tonight was 
Steves last night. Sounds like you people in Northern Cal will be
getting one of our best riders. Good luck Steve, we will all miss 
you. Good news for the local fans, tonight we were introduced to our
new referee. Brain Galvin will be replacing Bubba as the new guy in charge.
I hope all goes well for Bubba now. We also wish Brian the best of luck.
Tonight he only made one call that got the fans in an uproar. I can't say I 
liked the call but, I booed also, I wanted the other guy to win.
Doesn't mean the call was wrong though. If you live in the Whittier area, 
check out the weekly speedway coverage on cable t.v. It is on TCI cable 
every Thursday night at 8:00 pm. Howie from Raz video has worked a deal with 
them and is working on other markets. Hopefully we can see speedway in many more 
cities.
